Meet Steven Williams

Steven L. Williams is a native of Durham, North Carolina. He was raised in historic Walltown, one of Durham’s oldest communities. He was educated through the Durham Public School System. Steven graduated from Hillside High School in 1992. While at Hillside, Steven served as team captain of the varsity track team and co-captain of the varsity football team.
However, it was his stellar performance in track & field which afforded him a scholarship to Saint Augustine’s College in Raleigh, North Carolina. In 1998, he received his Bachelors of Science degree in International Business. He became a member of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. and served as the chapter President. Steven has always had a sense of “Community First.” He led a wide variety of community related activities within the old Chavis Heights neighborhood and the Garner Road YMCA. He believes all children should have the opportunity to succeed.
He began his professional career in 1997 as a Logistics Coordinator with extensive experience in domestic and international logistics. Steven has conducted business globally for several Fortune 500 companies in Mexico, China, Hong Kong, and Canada. Currently, Steven is the North and South American Logistics & Traffic Manager for a high technology smart-grid company.
Some of Steven’s latest community involvement consists of serving as Jr. Pee Wee Fundraiser for the Durham Eagles as they aspired to, and won, the National Championship in 2003. Additionally, in 2008-09 he served as assistant football coach for Durham Titans.
Steven is an active member of Monument of Faith Church. He recently attended a mission’s trip to Haiti to assist with building a school in the village of Gallette Chambon.
Steven’s passion for the “Bull City”, and its citizens, has inspired him to continue to serve the community in a more visible leadership capacity as Mayor of Durham, North Carolina.
